*This ecotourism project is 100% owned and run by the local kichwa community of Añangu*

The Añangu community welcomes you to enjoy the natural and cultural resources of the area that belongs to them within the Yasuní National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the largest remnants of the Ecuadorian tropical rain forest, at the Center for Community Tourism Napo Wildlife Center Lodge. This project was developed and is managed in a responsible manner to promote environmental conservation and the welfare of the whole community.

Napo Wildlife Center (NWC) is located on the south bank of the Napo River, by the Añangucocha lagoon, in the ancestral territory of the local kichwa community of Añangu .

The Lodge has been designed for maximum privacy and comfort, with facilities built to comply with the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental protection. The cabanas include private porches overlooking the lake and the surrounding forest. Each room is equipped with 1 king size bed and 1 twin bed, private bathroom with plenty of on-demand hot water, 24-hour electricity for bright lighting and plenty of outlets for recharging batteries (120v), ceiling fans and secure screened windows for bug-free ventilation.

The cabanas are connected by a trail system with a main building that holds a comfortable dining room and relax area overlooking the lake, a modern kitchen area with state-of-the-art water filtration system, a well-stocked bar and toilets. The dining facility is covered by an enormous thatched roof, and the lodge is built in the traditional native style combined with a comfortable modern style inside.

Next to the main building, there is a 50-foot (15 m) observation tower, from where you can enjoy the landscape and the quiet waters of the Añangucocha lagoon. The 120-ft. (36m) high forest canopy tower is located about 20 minutes from the lodge deep within the terra firme forest, and supplements the observation tower that is attached to the dining hall.

Some other additional facilities were specially designed to comply with a program to minimize environmental impact: a water tower, a wastewater treatment system, solar panels that supply electrical power to the hotel during certain hours of the day.

For the different activities, visitors are divided into small groups and led by a native Añangu guide, who is also a Yasuní National Park official ranger (an expert in the secrets of medicinal plants in the forest), and by a bilingual naturalist guide with a high level of knowledge about the biology of the tropical forest. Both guides, with enthusiasm and experience, will tailor the excursions to your expectations and interests according to the conditions in the forest, organizing the departures at dawn or sunset, for a fun and educational adventure.

Rates include: Accommodation + Full-board + Purified drinking water + River transportation and local transfers from/to Coca airport + All excursions, including a visit to the Kichwa Añangu Community and exclusive views of the parrot clay licks, and native guide and bilingual naturalist guide service.

Kapawi is located in the territorial lands of an indigenous nation (6,000 people in 64 communities), still living as they have for generations and in intimate harmony with nature. Accessible only by air – flying in small planes over an unbroken green expanse of rainforest, it is an award winning eco-lodge, noted for its comfort and quality of service, for its ecological design and sensitivity, and for its abundance of wildlife and rich biodiversity.

“We, the Achuar, were born in the forest. Our traditions are still intact, our land remains untouched by logging and oil companies, and our skies are covered with flocks of colorful Macaws. Kapawi is an important part of our plans to preserve our culture and conserve the rainforest for our children and grandchildren. We want a sustainable future; we invite you to be part of it.” - Luis Vargas. Achuar Leader.

Kapawi is one of the most remote, ecologically responsible and culturally sensitive ecolodges in the world – Your visit helps the Achuar people in their work to preserve their nearly two million acres of pristine rainforest in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
