Well-known for being the driest desert in the world, the Atacama Desert covers a large area of great archaeological, cultural and natural wealth.
The Atacama Desert is geographically located in what is called “The Great North” of Chile, and therein lies the third largest salt field in the world. Located at 2,440m above sea level, the air of the desert is so dry that you can often see from one end of the salt field to the other.
The flora and fauna are also an interesting presence in the desert landscape. Protected species in parks and national monuments represent part of the wonderful variety with which nature has provided this region, where life, despite the inhospitable climate, has managed to break through.
